Regulations Governing the Bachelor of Science in Accounting Program
Program Structure and Degree Classification
The Bachelor of Science in Accounting is a three-year program culminating in either an Honours or Pass Degree (B.Sc. or B.A.). Key aspects include:
- Students must complete an approved combination of courses as determined by the departmental Board.
- Courses are evaluated in terms of course units, with one unit equivalent to one lecture hour per week.
- Degree classification is based on cumulative performance across all levels of study.
- All core courses must be successfully completed to earn a degree.
- Continuous assessment contributes up to 40% of the total marks for each course.
- Examinations are conducted during the semester in which the course is offered, and credits are awarded upon passing.
Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)
The CGPA system determines the degree classification:
- The CGPA is calculated as the total weighted grade points divided by the total registered course units (both passed and failed).
- A minimum CGPA of 1.5 is required to graduate.
- Students with a CGPA below 1.5 for two consecutive years may be required to withdraw from the program.
- Degree classifications include:
- First Class Honours
- Second Class Honours (Upper and Lower Divisions)
- Third Class Honours
